Car sharing is set to create a more sustainable London Fashion Week this month as the industry looks for more sustainable alternatives

Zipcar makes it easier for exhibiting designers and labels to make a greener choice as it offers up free access to EVs and ULEZ compliant vans

The offer launches to create a more sustainable event, and help the fashion industry accelerate towards reducing its carbon footprint

10th February 2019Following the British Fashion Council’s recent announcement that London Fashion Week will have a renewed focus on sustainability, Zipcar, the UK’s largest car sharing network, is stepping in to help the industry meet its goals by offering designers and brands £100 in free driving credits.

With this new offer, designers can register and receive £100 in free Zipcar for Business credit, the equivalent of 24 hours of van usage or over a day’s worth of driving in a car. This will help small labels alleviate hefty haulage and transport costs, and established brands to make a greener choice when putting shows into action.

This offering is Zipcar’s latest step in its mission of creating a cleaner and healthier urban environment for Londoners, and help London Fashion Week, one of the capital’s biggest and most talked-about events, progress towards reducing fashion’s carbon footprint.

Zipcar has long been flying the flag for sustainable driving by eliminating the need for private car ownership, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and making eco-friendly options accessible and affordable for the masses.

The network’s corporate offering, Zipcar for Business, is designed to give small start-ups, medium-sized businesses and freelancers the same freedom, helping their day-to-day operations become greener and more economical.

Between 10th and 18th February, the credit will be redeemable against Zipcar’s fleet of zero-emission electric cars and ULEZ (ultra-low emissions zone) compliant vans that are perfect for driving collections, props and other large items from studio to show space.

James Taylor, Zipcar’s UK General Manager comments: “Sustainability is at the heart of everything Zipcar does, and we’re on a mission to be fully electric by 2025. We are proud to support other industries in meeting their sustainability goals, and we hope that our Fashion Week offering will inspire exhibitors to take a permanent step towards more sustainable transport.”

Last week, London Fashion Week issued further news of its move towards futureproofing a more sustainable industry as it revealed details of a city-wide celebration themed around Positive Fashion. This initiative, devised by the British Fashion Council, is designed to celebrate industry best practice and encourage future business decisions to create positive change. Iconic fashion houses including Mulberry and Roland Mouret will also be championing sustainability in their collections, shows and additional events throughout London Fashion Week.

Taylor added: “We are excited by London Fashion Week’s commitment to accelerate the industry’s journey towards net-zero emissions in a way that’s as creative and inspiring as the designers that populate it.”
