Members' Stories: Romance in the air

VaVa Vroom! Who needs wings when you’ve got wheels?! Move over Cupid, there’s a new love machine in town. From first dates to marriage proposals, love is most definitely in the air for these lucky Zipcar members…

Surprise engagement

"I used a Zipcar to visit my friend locally. When I got there, I walked right into my surprise engagement! It was a magical day, my fiancé used a Zipcar to drive to the area and get all the stuff ready for the engagement - candles, flowers, picnic baskets, blankets, balloons and everything! This day wouldn’t have been possible without Zipcar given that we live across the city from my mum and friends. I’ll never forget parking up that white VW e-Golf (his name was Carmichael), powdering my face then walking into my fiancé proposing!"

Lockdown romance

"Zipcar was my saviour during the first lockdown when getting public transport wasn't possible. I don’t actually know if me and my partner would have stayed together without it! While restaurants were closed we managed to arrange dates to Richmond, Greenwich and Hyde Park which was lovely!"

Durdle door

Anniversary at Durdle Door

"My most memorable Zipcar journey was a beach trip to Dorset, Durdle Door. It was to celebrate my 3rd anniversary with my partner. Having grown up on a Greek island, her childhood summers were always spent beside the sea - I wanted to surprise her with a beautiful beach picnic day. I drove her down to Durdle Door which was amazing as it took her back to her childhood. This was the first time she had seen such a clean, blue and beautiful sea in the UK. Unlike Tinder, you always get a good match with Zipcar!"

Cabin love

"My most memorable journey was August last year. It was my honeymoon, and we drove from London to Norfolk to spend a few days in a wooden cabin. It was an easy, enjoyable ride, as were all the drives we took while there. Having Zipcar made it a very easy experience because there was no headache of moving from point A to B."

The first date

"The most memorable journey I took was to meet a guy I had been talking to on a dating app. He lived in South London but didn't drive, so I hired a Zipcar and decided to go say hello! It was a bit scary to put myself out there but I thought, at the very least, I'd be able to see a bit of South London! I turned up, we met, went for a bit of a walk and now we are officially dating."

Wedding planning

“When I was getting married to my husband, we used Zipcar to gather everything - flowers, wedding cake, table decorations, Prosecco, the ceilidh band, the photographer. All the important ingredients to make our wedding day the most special ever! Without Zipcar, it just wouldn’t have been as amazing!”

Sunset dates

"My most memorable journey was my first date with my now boyfriend who I will be moving in with very soon! We drove to Tower Bridge and watched the sun set when we got there."

Wedding rescue

"I needed a car for my sister’s wedding. I made a last-minute booking and thankfully a Zipcar was available for the rescue!"

Spontaneous move in

"The night of the announcement of the Covid-19 March lockdown, my girlfriend and I were sitting watching the TV. I turned to her and said ‘Move in with me,’ she said yes and we booked a Zipcar van and drove to Lewisham to collect her stuff. I’m happy to say it was the right decision as we’re super happy and love living together! It wouldn’t have been possible without Zipcar, and we would have been separated for weeks."
