Members' Stories: Memorable Journeys

We asked some of our loyal members to share their most memorable stories about driving a Zipcar. We were overwhelmed with the positive responses, so here are some journeys other members have made that are memorable to them, in various ways.

Getting carried away at Columbia Road Market

"My favourite journey was a trip from Columbia Road Flower Market - the Zipcar was perfect for me! I got up early on a Sunday, took some cash and went plant shopping. I got a little over-excited and bought a massive selection of large and small plants. With heaving bags full of plants and a large plant in each arm, I thought I needed a Zipcar to rescue me! I found one just around the corner and loaded it up with all my bargain finds. The car ended up looking like a greenhouse on wheels and I got some funny looks at the traffic lights!"

"The most memorable journeys for me were driving to various hockey matches with my East London Hockey Club teammates! We had lots of fun trips as we got promoted this season!"

“On a whim, my daughter and I hopped into a nearby Zipcar and drove to West Wittering beach. It was one of the loveliest off-the-cuff things we’ve done in a long while. On the way back my daughter kept saying ‘that was the best day ever, mummy, thank you.”

"My memorable trip was when my family came over for my wedding. Given it was grandma's first time in London at the tender age of 74, I took her, my mom and dad, in a Zipcar for a little city tour!"

"My most memorable Zipcar journey was when I drove back to my hometown where I grew up and even went to my old house. It was still occupied by the family that moved in after us! We had a chat and relieved some memories, it was a lovely time."

"I went to pick up my girlfriend from the airport after we had an argument. Being able to take a Zipcar helped me make up with her because it made her feel special that I went to get her."

Supporting refugee children

"I started shooting a documentary about a football team made up of refugee children, all of whom had recently arrived in the UK. Football was a way of helping them socialise and learn English. I would get a Zipcar with all my camera equipment to Hackney Marshes and then all over London filming their matches."

An easy escape

"I was introduced to Zipcar via a friend years ago, we took one of the cars for a couple of days for a weekend away in the country. It was such an amazing weekend and it was made so much easier and stress-free by being able to pick up and return a car on a street near our flat. No travelling to a rental car agency, waiting in the queue to pick it up and having to stress about filling the car up to the top when returning it. It made everything so simple and easy!"

Getting Confidence Driving in London

"From moving house to trips to Ikea, to picnics in the park, Zipcar has made our life in London SO much easier! For me, the most memorable time was the first time I drove over Tower Bridge. It may not seem like a massive deal, but for years I was terrified of driving through London, but since I’ve been using Zipcar I’ve got a lot more confidence and now I quite enjoy it (minus the traffic!)"

The feeling of freedom

"My most memorable journey was driving to see my best friend in Highgate after not seeing each other for 3 months. It was a boiling hot day, so I had the windows open and I was playing my favourite summer tracks while driving through London and seeing the outside world. It was me and the road! Zipcar has been a saviour for me getting around London and all the madness in the world at the moment. Thanks, Zipcar and can’t wait till my next adventure!"
