Zipcar Now Offers Free Passes to State and Provincial Parks

BOSTON, May 17, 2019 – Today, Zipcar is announcing the official launch of its free park pass program just in time for the busy Memorial Day and Victoria Day travel weekends. The free passes enable Zipcar members to visit and park at select U.S. and Canada parks for free, providing more opportunity to easily and conveniently explore places outside of the city, from hiking trails to campsites and beaches.

“We know our members love the cities they live in, but also enjoy the freedom of being able to hit the open road and explore areas beyond city limits from time to time,” said Sherrill Kaplan, head of marketing and sales at Zipcar. “With hundreds of Zipcars now equipped with free park passes, our members have an easy, hassle-free way to visit some of the most incredible state and provincial parks, giving them one more reason to experience their surrounding areas.”

Zipcar piloted its free park pass program in five states, and due to its overwhelming success, has scaled it to seven states and Canada beginning May 2019.

“I always feel much more calm and centered when I leave the city behind. I can breathe more easily and just being in nature in the summer helps me get through the rest of the year working in my office,” said Zipcar member Stephanie Selover. “It doesn't take long to drive to somewhere beautiful and quiet, and there are always new places to explore. If I didn't have access to a Zipcar, I’d likely go hiking far less often.”

Free park passes are available in the following states and provinces.

U.S.

  • Colorado: Colorado Parks and Wildlife
  • Massachusetts: Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation
  • Michigan: Huron-Clinton Metroparks
  • New Jersey: New Jersey Division of Parks & Forestry
  • Oregon: Oregon State Parks Foundation
  • Rhode Island: State of Rhode Island Division of Parks and Recreation
  • Washington: Washington State Parks, Washington Department of Natural Resources and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Canada

  • Ontario Parks

“Our partnership with Zipcar makes Washington’s public lands more accessible to everyone,” said Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands, Hilary Franz, who oversees the Washington Department of Natural Resources. “This program is a creative way to help people from our urban centers interact with nature—even if they don’t own a car. And when people visit and play in the outdoors, we create more champions for the environment, helping ensure our public lands remain vibrant, cared for and available for generations to come.”

The free park passes can be found on several vehicles ranging from Subaru Crosstreks and Honda CR-Vs to Toyota Corollas. For more information, visit www.zipcar.com/parkpass.
