University of San Francisco’s Student Group, Period., Named Grand Prize Winner in Zipcar’s Students with Drive Campaign
BOSTON, April 2, 2025 — Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network, is proud to announce that Period, a mission-driven student organization at the University of San Francisco (USF), has been awarded the grand prize in Zipcar’s 2025 Students with Drive campaign, for its outstanding efforts to combat period poverty and promote menstrual equity on campus and in the wider community.
The Students with Drive campaign celebrates student organizations across the country that are driving positive change. This year’s grand prize honors Period for its impactful programming, dedication to social justice, and commitment to supporting underserved communities by distributing free menstrual products and advocating for systemic change.
As Grand Prize winners, Period will receive $2,000 in Zipcar driving credit to support transportation for their ongoing outreach and events, $5,000 in grant funding to grow their programming, $5,000 in grant scholarship for the University of San Francisco and recognition across Zipcar’s national platforms.
"Zipcar's generous prize will allow Period at The University of San Francisco to continue the Period Equity Project. Through these workshops held multiple times a semester, we hope to educate, reduce stigma, and empower those who menstruate [and allies]. This project induces dialogues and challenges norms for people to become agents of change. With this funding, we hope to change the culture surrounding menstruation at USF and keep giving back to the community through more product drives," said Karolyne Lajera, President of Period at The University of San Francisco.
“Zipcar is thrilled to recognize Period for their incredible leadership and vision for a commonplace need,” said Kate Smith, head of Business to Business and Partnerships. “They exemplify what it means to drive change—literally and figuratively. We’re proud to support their mission and help expand their reach through our Students with Drive grant program.”
