City of Sacramento and Our Community CarShare to Host Community Event at the Pannell Community Center to Expand EV Access
Sacramento, Calif. – The City of Sacramento and the Sac Metro Air District’s Our Community CarShare (OCCS) program will host a special community event at the Pannell Meadowview Community Center to expand electric vehicle (EV) car-sharing designed to provide affordable and sustainable transportation options to income-qualified residents.
The event will be on Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will learn more about OCCS, explore the benefits of EV car sharing, and get help signing up for membership. Event partners also will provide additional resources to attendees including information about health and education programs as well as a free bike repair station. Event partners include Zipcar, SMUD, Valley Vision, Breathe Sacramento, Clean Cities Sacramento, GreenTech Education, the Health Education Council, the Sacramento Children’s Home, and Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA).
According to Zipcar, since its launch in 2017, OCCS has provided over 63,000 trips to Sacramento region residents, offering convenient, low-cost EV rentals made possible through its partnership with Zipcar. A key partner since the program’s inception, Zipcar provides professionally managed and maintained EVs for OCCS members, ensuring reliable service and collecting essential data for the Sac Metro Air District to measure the program’s impact. To date, Zipcar estimates that OCCS has helped eliminate over 2 million pounds of carbon emissions.
Now, in partnership with the City of Sacramento under its EV Blueprint, and supported by Breathe Sacramento and Zipcar, the program is expanding to three new public locations:
- Pannell Meadowview Community Center, 2450 Meadowview
- Belle Cooledge Library, 5600 South Land Park Drive
- Mangan Park, 5730 24th Street (Opened in August 2024)
OCCS vehicles are available at locations across Sacramento, including public sites at Eskaton at Jefferson Manor, the Greentech Mobility Hub in Del Paso Heights, Sacramento Valley Station, and resident-only sites in Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and Mutual Housing communities.
