About Rivian
Founded in 2009, Rivian produces state-of-the-art consumer and commercial electric vehicles. In 2023, they rolled out over 57,000 EVs. It’s a company founded on the commitment to stop the carbonization of our atmosphere and help transition the world toward sustainable transportation options.
The Background
When it comes to helping drivers achieve smaller carbon footprints, Rivian has always aimed big. Take their goal of net-zero carbon emissions. Rivian signed the Climate Pledge to reach that target by 2040—a full 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s mid-century goal.
"The scale of the challenge is enormous, but we're lucky to be a part of this—to be able to help solve how we shift our planet’s energy and transportation systems entirely away from fossil fuel," said R.J. Scaringe, Rivian founder and CEO.
When Rivian was building their vehicle service customer experience, it made sense to partner with a company that shared the same commitment to the environment.
The Solution
In 2021, Zipcar and Rivian started an unprecedented partnership. It not only enhanced their missions to create a greener future, but also leveraged Zipcar’s ability to provide convenient transportation in multiple locations across the country. For Rivian customers, this meant they could use Zipcars while getting their vehicles serviced. Zipcar provided a versatile fleet, including EVs that were one click away via the Zipcar mobile app.
It’s a simple process. Rivian’s service team invites customers to Rivian’s Zipcar Customer Account. Within minutes, the customer can reserve the Zipcar placed at the Rivian Service center. And it serves as their replacement vehicle while their vehicle is being serviced.
The Result
Today, Zipcars can be found at over 20 Rivian service locations across the country. What initially started out as all gas-powered Zipcars, has now transitioned into a fleet of 38 vehicles—34 are EVs.
Rivian and Zipcar have both made it their mission to create a better, greener future by reducing carbon emissions and shifting towards more sustainable energy and transportation. Rivian's focus on net-zero emissions and Zipcar's goal to lower carbon emissions through car-sharing directly support each other. By partnering together, the two companies have boosted the impact on environmental sustainability through shared initiatives and innovations.
