| If there is a phrase that describes the Zipcar car-sharing service – and I dont think there is yet – it would be some mix of Volkswagen's Fahrvergnügen (driving pleasure) and Napster "Own Nothing, Have Everything" advertising slogan. The experience is what it is all about: I reserve a Mini Cooper online, walk one block from my house in San Francisco to a car lot, swipe my card across the windshield, get in, adjust the seat and mirrors, and motor off.

Another Manhattan luxury is making its way to the Bronx – and it's eco-friendly.
Zipcar, the urban car share service, is bringing 12 cars to the borough that will be stationed in four parking lots. It has plans to have at least 20 more in three additional lots by summer's end. Eight years after Zipcars first hit the road, the popularity of car sharing continues to grow as drivers look for greener alternatives and ways to save money amid soaring gas prices. Zipcar now boasts 200,000 members in 50 markets in the United States, Europe and Canada. That's up from 50,000 members in 10 markets in May 2006.
